Worship at MCC Edinburgh
MCC Edinburgh's primary purpose is to provide a safe space where anyone and everyone can worship God, as they are, as they feel able. People come to our worship from a variety of Church backgrounds. Some have had no Church experience before they came to MCC.

As a Church we have experienced God in different ways and understand worship from our own individual perspectives. Some aspects of worship and faith mean more to some of us than to others. Each of us has our own certainties, each of us our own doubts.

We come to worship from this perspective of diversity. As a Congregation we have accepted and realise that there is no one way of worshipping God and we try to offer worship that each of us can benefit from in our own way.

We seek to reflect different traditions of worship while exploring new ways of worshipping. Most people who have worshipped in a Christian church before will find our services broadly familiar. We use a variety of musical styles, with perhaps a slight emphasis on more modern songs. Our music is usually accompanied by Church musicians on key board and guitar.

Unlike some traditions, we place importance on lay involvement in worship. This involvement can be through leading worship, celebrating communion or preaching or it can be in more simple, but equally important ways, such as reading, setting up the service or providing welcome. Training classes are provided for those who wish to do more but feel they lack the skills or the confidence.

Another distinctive feature of our worship is that we strive to reflect our commitment to inclusivity in what we do and what we say. This often means using language which includes all people and which does not reflect only a male image of God. Like the Bible, we try to use different images of God in our worship. Many find this approach very helpful but, if you are unfamiliar with inclusive language, do not worry as no one will be criticised for using "wrong" words.

Communion is celebrated every Sunday. We celebrate an open Communion. To take part, it is not necessary to be a member of MCC or of any Church. All that we ask is that the participant is, in their own way, seeking to meet with God.

The wine we use for Communion is non alcoholic and the bread is gluten free so that all may be welcome.
